Energysoft Generic Connector: Unifying Data Retrieval for Reliable and Scalable Solar Monitoring

Context

Power stations are monitored using communication gateways installed on site, which collect data from electrical devices and transmit it to the Energysoft platform.

How does Energysoft process this data?

Energysoft is capable of interpreting a wide variety of formats (structured CSV, XML, proprietary formats, etc.). The platform’s engine standardises this data, transforms it and restores it in a consistent format, regardless of the hardware used. Energysoft can also process data from external sources such as cloud services.

Supported data sources

Today, Energysoft is compatible with the vast majority of communication gateways on the market and supports various standard communication protocols, including FTP, SFTP, MQTT, and MQTTS. The platform is also capable of interconnecting with manufacturer portals via dedicated APIs (HTTP, HTTPS).

Energysoft also offers the commissioning of remote gateways, cloud dataloggers, interconnecting to on-site systems in OPC UA, DNP3, via a dedicated and secure infrastructure (VPN).

Data standardisation and reliability

How does Energysoft homogenise data?

The platform uses a set of parsers and mappings to interprets the files received, converts formats and units, performs calculations and transforms the data. The data is then structured and standardised on fine-grained and aggregated time grids, ensuring rapid display on the web portal and mobile applications. This is the core of S4E SOFTWARE’s expertise.

The challenges of data recovery

Why is data collection central to monitoring?

Monitoring is essential for:

  • Producers: tracking production in real time, measuring performance, detecting anomalies and maximising the profitability of the installation.
  • Operators and maintainers: monitor performance, anticipate problems, plan and execute maintenance operations.
  • Asset managers: aggregate portfolio data, compare budget vs. actual, build specific indicators.
  • Owners: track production and associated revenues.

What about specific systems not natively supported by Energysoft?

For installations with a specific data collection system (SCADA, dedicated system), Energysoft provides a ‘generic connector’ module capable of reading and interpreting CSV files sent via FTP or SFTP.

Ease of implementation

This module does not require any specific development by S4E SOFTWARE. An administrator can configure a mapping simply by associating a cell or column in the received file with a logical entity in Energysoft (device type, identifier, measurement) and defining the formats and units.

In practice, the generic connector allows the customer to:

  • Interconnect any gateway with Energysoft,
  • Match the data in a file with the data expected by the platform,
  • Integrate heterogeneous data sources into a unified structure.

What are the benefits for customers and automation engineers?

This approach limits on-site interventions, avoids costly specific developments, reduces integration time and speeds up the commissioning of power plants.

Scalability and volume increase

How does Energysoft manage the massive amont of data?

The platform is based on a scalable and extensible infrastructure capable of adapting quickly to increase data volumes.

A system redundancy is deployed across several European data centres to ensure service continuity and rapid recovery in the event of an incident. Continuous data replication guarantees high availability.

In figures:

  • 3 million files processed per day
  • 27,000 connected gateways
  • 7 GW monitored
