S4E SOFTWARE and Mines Paris – PSL have joined forces with a shared ambition: develop innovative and sustainable solutions through the combination of data science and machine learning. This partnership combines the industrial expertise of S4E SOFTWARE with the academic excellence of the O.I.E. centre at Mines Paris – PSL in order to design tools capable of anticipating the technical and climatic challenges facing players in the solar energy sector.
Mines Paris – PSL, a leading player
Mines Paris – PSL has established itself as a leader in renewable energy education and research. Backed by its 18 research centres, the school trains the engineers of tomorrow, capable of designing, installing, operating and maintaining innovative energy infrastructures. Among these, the O.I.E. centre stands out for its expertise in analysing satellite and meteorological data, and in modelling the performance of photovoltaic installations.
This academic and scientific ecosystem enables the school to add considerable value to innovation projects. Through this collaboration, S4E SOFTWARE and Mines Paris – PSL are at the cutting edge of applied research.
A collaborative project: An innovative analytical module for 2025
The centrepiece of this collaboration is the development of an analytical module, scheduled for early 2025. This advanced supervision tool is the fruit of synergy between Yves-Marie Saint-Drenan, a researcher at the O.I.E centre, and S4E SOFTWARE’s data science teams, integrating the latest advances in data science to respond to the growing needs of facility management and optimisation.
The module is designed to be scalable and focuses on three main areas:
- Plant configuration verification: ensuring that modelling matches reality in the field (e.g. optimal panel tilt)
- Modelling production losses: identifying and categorising losses related to factors such as shading, panel deterioration or soiling
- Predictive maintenance: anticipating failures and weather events for efficient maintenance scheduling and optimising overall plant performance.
The first phases of the project are already ongoing, subject to a confidentiality agreement, with fruitful exchanges of data between S4E SOFTWARE and Mines Paris – PSL. The preliminary results are promising, confirming the potential of this collaboration.
A forward-looking partnership
This project represents much more than a simple technological development. It offers a unique opportunity for students at Mines Paris – PSL to learn about technologies and professions of the future, such as data science applied to renewable energies. By committing to this project, they are contributing to high-impact sustainable development projects.
S4E SOFTWARE is delighted to be working with a renowned school that prepares the future players in the energy transition sector. Together, we are implementing practical solutions to meet tomorrow’s energy challenges, while training the talent to help build a more sustainable future.
